When the heart suddenly can’t pump enough blood, it’s called cardiogenic shock. In people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) — a condition where the heart muscle becomes too thick — this problem is especially tricky to manage.

New treatments are making a big difference. Special medications and high-tech devices like ECMO (a machine that takes over heart and lung function) and LVADs (a small pump to help the heart) are saving lives. These tools help stabilize patients during critical moments.

With ongoing research, future treatments for HCM are looking even brighter. The goal is to give patients a better chance at recovery or prepare them for a heart transplant if needed, ultimately improving their quality of life.
